Energy Usage

How can you help conserve energy on campus?

  • Turn lights off in classrooms
    • Turning off the lights when your class is over saves a lot of energy.
  • Computers
    • A laptop uses just a quarter of the power required by a desktop computer.
      • Using laptop computers instead of desktop computers would save a lot of energy usage for the school.
    • Use the printer wisely
      • You can save paper by printing on both sides of the page.
      • You can also save if you change the print quality to low quality for papers and assignments you don’t need to turn into professors, and high quality for papers and assignments you need to turn into professors.
    • When you are done using a computer, instead of just logging off, shut it down too.
      • When you just log off the computer it is still running and using energy, compared to turning it off and using no energy.

Conserve Energy at Home

  • Use compact fluorescent light bulbs
    • They do cost a little more but they last longer and save a lot of energy.
    • Fluorescent light bulbs save $30 in energy costs over the life of one light bulb.
    • Compact fluorescent light bulbs use 2/3 less energy than standard incandescent bulbs, provide the same amount of light, last up to ten times longer, and generate 70% less heat.
  • When possible use lamp lighting instead of overhead lighting.
    • It is much more pleasant and environmentally efficient.
