Composting

Composting is the process of decomposition of organic matter that generates a nutrient-rich product that can be used as a soil amendment in gardens.  UW Fox began a compost collection program to reduce waste and promote environmental sustainability in 2009.  UWFox CompostingTo date, we have collected more than 13,000 lbs. of organic waste; waste that has been diverted from the local landfill.   Each day UW Fox students collect compostable waste from the green compost bins on campus and from the campus cafeteria.  The compost is weighed and incorporated into the compost windrow located on campus grounds.  We are always seeking volunteers to help with the compost collection program and monitor the composting process.  Please contact Dr. Teresa Weglarz at teresa.weglarz@uwc.edu for more information.
